Cash Back On Your Therapy Sessions

You can Use mentaya reimbursement calculator on out-of-network therapy sessions

I work with Mentaya, a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year.

Note: Mentaya’s goal is to save you time and money. It’s completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation.

Are you ready for more calm and less chaos?

Get relief from your pain, rediscover who you are & reclaim a life that you love.

Payment FAQs

Payment is collected at time of service via credit card.

Clients will be charged the full fee for services if they do not cancel at least 48 hours before their appointment or if they no-show.

I use Ivy Pay to process payments, which we’ll set up in our intake session. Ivy Pay is a HIPAA-compliant credit card processing service, which is secure and confidential. Your card information is stored with Ivy Pay and I don’t have access to it.

1. During the intake session, you’ll provide me with your mobile phone number, which I’ll enter into my Ivy Pay app along with a charge for the session fee.

2. Ivy Pay will text you a secure link which leads to a page where you’ll enter your credit card information and approve the first charge.

3. For future sessions, I’ll use Ivy Pay to charge the stored card you added during the first session. You’ll get a text informing you after each charge.

You’ll only be asked to enter your credit card information once (unless you need to change the card), and you don’t need to download an app.

I am not in-network with any insurance companies.

I am considered an out-of-network provider and can issue a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement based on your plan. Many insurance companies will provide you with 20% to 80% reimbursement for your sessions.

You can check your out-of-network reimbursement using the Mentaya calculator above.

  • When you use insurance, you must have a “diagnosis” for the insurance company to process the claim.

  • Mental health diagnoses can stay in your medical history for an indefinite amount of time.

  • Some mental health diagnoses can affect whether you can get life insurance or, in some instances, certain jobs.

  • Insurance companies can limit the number of therapy sessions they reimburse. They can limit the length of time each session can last. This means you may have to settle for a shorter session than the therapist would typically do.

  • Your insurance company gets to decide what type of treatment is considered “medically necessary.” That means if you’re coming to therapy to address grief, your insurance could refuse to cover the cost of sessions because “grief” is not an official mental health diagnosis recognized by insurance companies.

  • When you use insurance, your insurance company will have access to your entire record if they request it. This means there is additional risk to your confidentiality and ability to maintain privacy around your medical records.

  • If an insurance claim is denied, you’re still responsible for the full cost of the services provided. Large, unexpected bills are never a pleasant surprise, especially when services occurred many months in the past. With private pay you don’t have to worry about unexpected bills for past service showing up.

  • Teletherapy may not be covered by all insurance plans. Most plans opted to cover telehealth during the COVID-19 pandemic, but this may change in the future and your eligibility for teletherapy may change at any time.

  • The option to pay privately makes it easier for you to find a therapist you really fit well with and connect with, instead of having to go with a therapist who is in network and may not be a good fit.

Only you can decide whether private pay is the right choice for you, especially if you have insurance that covers another provider.

Appointments must be cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment start time. You can cancel an appointment with me by contacting me directly via text, email or phone at least 48 hours before the start of our session.

If an appointment is canceled with less than 48 hours’ notice, you’ll be charged the full session fee via Ivy Pay.

No-Show Fee:

If you don’t cancel your session and don’t show up to your session at the scheduled time, you’ll be charged the full session fee via Ivy Pay.

Late-cancel & no-show fees are non-refundable.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

• You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.

• Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item.

• You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

• If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

• Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 800-985-3059.
